Obituary

Old Comrade - ESDON, John Erskine: Veteran, Canadian Army. Passed peacefully at Riverpark Place on Monday, February 16, 2009 in his 83rd year. Devoted husband of the late Alison Yule. Dear brother of Helen Jean Johnstone. Predeceased by his parents, Robert and Isabella. Will be greatly missed by the Johnstone Clan of Ottawa and brother-in-law Thomas Yule of Viking, Alberta. Born in Cornwall, Ontario, John served his country for 26 years in the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals beginning in 1944 as a radio operator at isolated posts in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut and at other communication postings in Western Canada before settling in Ottawa with Alison. After leaving the army, John took up a career with the Federal Public Service. John will be remembered for his love of music, which he shared as a member of choirs at Dominion-Chalmers United Church and at the keyboard of an organ. John was a true gentleman with a quiet strength who overcame many challenges with a positive spirit.
