Maj. J.M. Benhke

[Ed. Note] The following is excerpted from a note received from Joe Daybell]

While doing some Benkhe family research, I happened upon your marvelous site. My uncle was SSgt Joe Benkhe who you have correctly connected with Gordon Lake and Thompson Lake in ’38 and ‘39. This made me do a bit of digging and I dug out a pair of beautifully stitched gloves that Joe sent to my mother Bonny (Veronica Benkhe Daybell) for Christmas, 1935. At the time he was at Fort Norman and had just installed an automatic diesel generator there. Accompanying the gloves was a short note and a photo of the Fort Norman station house. I am attaching both items to this note. “Cliff and Ann” refers to his brother in Buffalo, NY and the folks in Evanston are the family of his maternal aunt in Evanston, Ill, a Chicago suburb.
